In 2009, friends and collaborators Oren Ambarchi and Stephen O'Malley were asked by Belgian filmmaker Alexis Destoop to score his short film “Kairos”. They recorded music for this purpose in a space engineered and co-populated by Randall Dunn, who became a third partner in the endeavor as they progressed. The Shade Themes From Kairos LP was issued by Drag City in 2014.
